Knight Residence

Knight residence:
2 joined apartments on the 39th floor of a 70’s building + majestic views of the city skyline, the city parks & Lake Michigan: these are the main ingredients for a project of invention of a penthouse that never was. The guiding element becomes a circulation in which new focal points are created, views are emphasized and multiplied, where the surfaces of walls are made complex and textural. A few elements dictate the quality of this space: a 40’ long wood paneled wall concealing closets, blank walls and room doors; a central and articulated volume that conceals a kitchen, and storage elements; a sculptural round column; the windows on the city. Floors are a camel color wool carpet combined with French limestone. Walls are white. Doors are bleached oak panels when they want to conceal, or floor to ceiling aluminum and frosted glass panels when they want to reveal and share natural light.
Total Project area: 2,500 sf.
Completion year: 2003.
Project partially designed while at another architectural firm.
