In downtown Chicago on the Magnificent Mile, 2 unique apartments sharing a terrace are joined to create a unique ensemble of a slick urban pod with a 1,000 sf hanging garden. A core volume hosting bathrooms, closets and building chases is transformed and disengaged from its surroundings and finished in a dark grey Venetian plaster. The circulation around the core is reinvented to create a circular motion that enjoys 270 degree views of the surrounding Chicago skyline and all the rooms and their functions flow into one another. The use of exotic wood like Palisander on doors, Macassar ebony and Wenge’ on custom millwork and natural oak on floors set the complex tone of the residence. Furnishing are in cream leather, lavender & brown wools, yellow and white lacquers combined with black, brown and chrome accents to achieve a sophisticated yet relaxed and comfortable feel. A custom crystal chandelier and carefully edited accent pieces provide understated glamour.
Total project area: 3,000sf.
Completion year: 2006.
